On Saturday, March 3rd, 2012, Excel Academy celebrated our first four years of growth and accomplishment with an evening of music at our inaugural gala, entitled “Dream a Little Dream.” This event, held at the Organization of American States in downtown Washington, DC, brought over 200 Friends of Excel for a silent auction, student choral presentation and seated dinner. The gala raised funds for Excel’s Music and Art programs, both of which were featured prominently in the festivities of the evening. Guests excitedly bid on scholar artwork and other donated items during the silent auction which brought in over $10,500. During the dinner, guests were treated to a special performance by the Excel Academy Third Grade Scholar Chorus, joined by their sister-scholars at one of Excel’s partner schools, the Holton-Arms School. Together, the girls performed with wide eyes and full hearts for the packed room. They were joined for their finale piece by professional opera singer Karin Paludan, who led the girls in a rousing chorus of O Sole Mio. As the guests came to their feet, both they and the girls knew it was a night they would not soon forget. This gala raised over $130,000 for the music and art programs. We are so grateful for the support of the Friends of Excel to ensure the arts thrive at Excel Academy!
